What Have We Been Learning?
3rd Grade
Math:
We are practicing our multiplication tables and adding whole numbers. We are now focusing on different strategies such as: skip counting, and drawing a place value model to represent the problem. We just started our new chapter on Time. Ask your child about these strategies. Ask your child to sing our multiplication songs to you.
Language Arts:
All students are reading an independent book (a just right book) and doing journal writes on our STAR strategies. STAR strategy focus: Distinguishing from real and make believe. We are also working on folklore in shared reading: fairy tales, folktales, fables, legends and myths. We will be reviewing the concepts and then assessing this standard. Students are also reading an instructional book and working on word work in his/her guided reading group with teacher direction.
Writing:
We are working on creating a personal narrative writing that 3 paragraphs or more. We are working on producing paragraphs that explode with lots of details. We are working on weekly spelling patterns, parts of speech, and conventions.
Science: We just finished our unit on the Solar System.
Social Studies:
We are starting out our unit learning about: Where we live? Planet Earth, Continent, Country, State, County, City, & Community. Also making sure they know his/her address & phone #. Then moving on to Kumeyaay.

Please return them signed Thursday. Assessments folders go home and you have 1 week to look at the assessments with your child. Please sign the envelope and return the folder with all assessments.
